Sharks Visit Wild for Final Game of Road Trip
San Jose Sharks vs. Minnesota Wild

SHARKS (19-5-5) AT WILD (17-9-5)

Last 10: San Jose 7-3-0; Minnesota 4-5-1

Season series: This is the first of three between the San Jose Sharks and the Minnesota Wild. The teams will also meet in San Jose on Thursday and then again on Jan. 25. Last season, the Sharks won two of three, including a 6-1 win in their most recent matchup on April 18. Logan Couture had four points in the win.

Big story: San Jose has lost two straight games in regulation, the first time all season they have gone two games without earning a point. The Sharks look to avoid losing three straight for just the second time this season; the Wild are aiming for their third straight win at home.

Team scope:

Sharks: San Jose lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 on Thursday and followed that up with a 5-3 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. The Sharks had a 2-0 lead, but four third-period goals by the Hurricanes turned the game around.

“Just a couple of defensive lapses in the third period that ultimately cost us the game,” Joe Thornton said. “It wasn’t a good period at all…You let four goals in the third period, you’re not going to win many games.”

The Sharks are 1-2-0 on a four game road trip, which concludes against the Wild, and have allowed 10 goals in two games.

“I don’t see an energized team right now. I see us chasing and I see the other team dictating the pace of the game,” Sharks coach Todd McLellan said after the loss.

Wild: One night after beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 on Thursday, the Wild couldn’t get any offense going in a 4-0 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. They had 20 shots but none got by Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney.

“It's frustrating. We didn't play our game at all. We were OK in the first and went straight down from there,” defenseman Keith Ballard said.

Minnesota was shut out for the second time this season, the first since a 3-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 25.

Minnesota coach Mike Yeo announced Saturday that Josh Harding would be back in net against the Sharks, marking his fifth start in Minnesota's past six games. Forward Zenon Konopka, who was scratched against Columbus, is also expected to return to the lineup.

Who's hot: Jason Pominville has three point in four games for the Wild. … With an assist Friday, Joe Thornton extended his point streak to eight games and has recorded a point in 15 of his past 16 games.
