Thank you to all the Sharks fans who have supported “Burnzie’s Buzz Cut!” Because of your generosity, we’ve more than doubled our goal!
Some people thought he looked like Chewbacca. Others saw more of a resemblance with Big Foot. But regardless of who Sharks defenseman-turned-forward Brent Burns resembled, there’s no denying that his untamed hair and scraggly mountain-man beard had become his trademark. With his clean-shaven look, however, fans will have to get used to Burns’ new youthful appearance.
“Burnzie’s Buzz Cut for Charity” started out as an idea by Brent and wife Susan to raise money for two worthwhile causes: the Katie Moore Foundation and Defending the Blue Line. Initially, the goal was to ask Sharks fans to donate money for Burns to shave his unruly head and beard. The fundraiser started mid-October with a modest goal of raising $10,000 and by day five, the goal had already been reached. By the end of the campaign, Sharks fans across the country donated more than $24,000, shattering the initial goal and once again proving why they’re one of the best fan bases in the NHL.
On Nov. 1, with the help of teammates Jason Demers #5, James Sheppard #15 and Adam Burish #37, Burns performed the buzz and transformed into a new person. Click here to see photos from the event.
“My kids won’t even recognize me anymore,” Burns said with a smile. “Who knew that my hair was worth so much money? I had no idea we’d be able to raise this much money for two organizations that are close to my heart. The fact that we did shows how awesome our fans are. I’d like to personally thank all of them.”
Fans who donated $50 or more will receive a signed “before/after” photo of Burns, while the Top Donors (Sherri P, Mark T, Stephen R and Sarah G) had the opportunity to attend the event. While the “Burnzie’s Buzz Cut for Charity” fundraiser is now over, fans can still support to the Sharks Foundation’s programs and initiatives by clicking on the “Donate” button below.

ABOUT DEFENDING THE BLUE LINE
Defending the Blue Line’s (DTBL) mission is ensuring that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of hockey. We accomplish this by providing free equipment for military kids, hockey camps, special events, and financial assistance for registration fees and other costs associated with hockey. Thanks to the generosity of our NHL partners, including Brent Burns, game tickets are made available for military kids during the season. To date, over 2500 tickets to pro, semi pro, and collegiate hockey games have been given away to deserving families. To learn more about DTBL, visit www.defendingtheblueline.org.
