Jillson was immediately sent to Buffalo along with the Sharks ninth round selection (ninth round eliminated after 2004 NHL Entry Draft) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Brown and D Andy Delmore. Delmore was then traded by San Jose to Boston for future considerations (all on March 9, 2004).
