Sharks Sign Forward Bryan Lerg

SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed forward Bryan Lerg to a one-year contract.

"Bryan plays the game with energy and can chip in both offensively and on the forecheck," said Wilson. "He is a solid character guy and we are excited to add him to the organization."

Lerg, 28, recorded 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) and four penalty minutes in 35 games played with Lake Erie of the American Hockey League (AHL) last season. Lake Erie's captain finished the 2013-14 season ranked seventh on the team in points and tied for fifth in goals scored.

In 280 career AHL games with Lake Erie, Wilkes-Barre Scranton and Springfield, Lerg has amassed 154 points (76 goals, 78 assists) and 100 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro in 2008, Lerg spent four seasons with Michigan State (2004-2008), helping the Spartans win the 2008 NCAA National Hockey Championship. He also represented the United States at the 2004 U-18 World Junior Championship, helping the US win a silver medal by collecting two goals and six assists in six games at the tournament.

The five-foot-ten. 175-pound native of Livonia, MI, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Edmonton on April 1, 2008.
