Here are some quick facts about Sharks 2014 third round draft selection Dylan Sadowy.

A year ago, Dylan Sadowy wasn’t even ranked by Central Scouting.

Since then, he transformed himself from a fourth-line player in junior hockey to one of the Ontario Hockey League’s elite goal scorers.

It’s this goal-scoring ability, in addition to the manner that Sadowy proved that he’s capable of such rapid improvement, that led to him bursting onto the NHL radar and being taken 81st overall in the third round by the Sharks in the 2014 NHL Draft.

  1. Is considered a player that a year ago was not much of a prospect, who skyrocketed into the spotlight by exploding for 27 goals playing for the Ontario Hockey League’s Saginaw (Michigan) Spirit this past season. Sadowy’s breakout season in Saginaw came after a near-disastrous rookie junior season in 2012-13, when he only scored two goals in 61 games.

  2. In the addition to improving his offensive numbers, Sadowy also tremendously improved his all-around game this past season, boosting his plus/minus rating from -13 to +14 in one season.

  1. Sadowy’s breakout season with Saginaw came in the midst of tragedy, as members of the Spirit had to suffer the agony of having teammate Terry Trafford going missing, only to turn up dead at the age of 20 as a result of what’s believed to be a suicide. On his Draft day, Sadowy spoke glowingly of his friendship with Trafford, whose spirit he feels is with him every day.

  2. Another major ingredient that contributed to the rise in Sadowy’s Draft stock was that he tested extremely well at the NHL Combine in May, finishing in the top 10 in virtually every strength test.

  1. Sadowy’s coach with Saginaw is former NHL player Greg Gilbert, who during his own playing career was the only player to ever win the Stanley Cup with both the New York Islanders (1983) and the New York Rangers (1994).
