Alex Schoenborn Facts
Here are some quick facts about Sharks 2014 third-round draft selection Alex Schoenborn.

Alex Schoenborn may be a few seasons away from playing in the NHL.

But, the Sharks third-round pick (72nd overall) already plays a prototypical, in-your-face style sort of hockey that is so commonplace in the Pacific Division.

And it’s that style, combined with a scoring touch that saw him score 18 goals playing junior hockey last season, that seemingly has him primed to one day don a black and teal sweater as a legitimate power forward in San Jose.

  1. Is a gritty winger, who isn’t afraid to drop the gloves. Has played for the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks the last two seasons, where he teamed with Nashville Predators defenseman Seth Jones to win the WHL championship and reach the Memorial Cup in 2012-13.

  2. Has often said that he models his style after veteran NHL forward Scott Hartnell.

  1. Schoenborn’s coach the past two seasons in Portland was Mike Johnston, who was recently replaced Dan Bylsma as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

  2. His hometown is Minot, North Dakota, and its nickname is “Magic City.” Tim Jackman of the Calgary Flames is the only NHL player to ever come from Minot, whose most famous native is actor Josh Duhamel.

  3. Was born on December 12, 1995. That day, the Sharks got a strong goaltending performance from Chris Terreri, and used goals from Tom Pederson and Ray Sheppard to skate to a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators.
