Viedensky Added to Slovak World Team
SAN JOSE - The Slovak Ice Hockey Federation has announced that San Jose Sharks forward Marek Viedensky has been added to the 2014 Slovak Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men's World Championship from May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.
During the 2013-14 season, the 23-year-old Viedensky posted 23 points (6-17=23), a plus-one rating, and 29 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Worcester Sharks (AHL). In 120 career games with Worcester, he has posted 40 points (15-25=40).
Viedensky has previously appeared on the international stage for Slovakia, playing in the 2008 World U18 Championship, 2009 World Junior Championship, and 2010 World Junior Championship. At the 2010 World Junior Championship he registered six points (1-5=6) in six games, finishing first on the Slovak National Team in assists, second in points, and tied for sixth in the entire tournament in assists.
The six-foot-three, 210-pound native of Handlova, Slovakia was originally selected by San Jose in the 2009 NHL Draft (7th round, 189th overall).
