The Czech Ice Hockey Association has announced that San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl has been added to the 2014 Czech Republic Men\'s National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men\'s World Championship from May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.

SAN JOSE - The Czech Ice Hockey Association has announced that San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl (@TomasHertl48) has been added to the 2014 Czech Republic Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men's World Championship from May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.

During the 2013-14 season, the 20-year-old Hertl posted 25 points (15-10=25) and a plus-11 rating in 37 games. Despite missing the majority of the year due to a knee injury sustained on Dec. 19 at Los Angeles, Hertl finished the season 6th on the team in goals (15), 8th amongst League rookies in goals, and was named Playstation "Sharks Co-Rookie of the Year" with Matt Nieto. At the time of his injury, Hertl ranked first on the Sharks in goals as well as first among all NHL rookies in both goals and points.

Hertl was named the NHL's First Star of the Week on Oct. 13 (five goals in three games) and was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for October (8-3=11 in 13 games). When he scored four goals against the New York Rangers on Oct. 8 he became the fourth-youngest player in NHL history to score four goals in one game, tied a franchise record for most goals in a game, and became the only player in Sharks franchise history to score six goals in his first three games.

In seven postseason games with San Jose, Hertl registered five points (2-3=5), 14 hits, and 19 shots. During Game 1 of the Sharks-Kings series on Apr. 17, Hertl had two points (1-1=2), picking up his first career playoff assist and goal to become the first player in Sharks history to record multiple points in his postseason debut.

Hertl has made multiple appearances on the national stage for the Czech Republic, most notably playing in the 2011 World U18 Championships, 2012 World Junior Championship, 2013 World Junior Championship, and 2013 IIHF World Championship.

The six-foot-two, 220-pound native of Praha, Czech Republic was originally selected by San Jose in the 2012 NHL Draft (1st round, 17th overall).
