Wingels Added to USA World Championship Team

SAN JOSE - USA Hockey announced today that San Jose Sharks forward Tommy Wingels (@TommyWingels) has been added to the 2014 U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Men's World Championship May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.

During the 2013-14 season, the 26-year-old Wingels posted 38 points (16-22=38), a +11 rating, and seven game-winning goals in 77 games. Along with setting a franchise record for most hits in a single game (12, Mar. 25, 2014 at Edmonton), Wingels set a career high in goals (16), assists (22), and points (38). He finished the season ranked fifth on the team in goals and sixth on the team in points, and led the Sharks in hits with 218.

In seven postseason games with San Jose, Wingels registered three assists and 13 shots. A 2012 Masterton Trophy and 2013 King Clancy Award nominee, he will be making his first appearance internationally on the U.S. National Team.

The six-foot 200-pound native of Evanston, IL was originally selected by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Draft (6th round, 177th overall).
