Marleau Named Lady Byng Memorial Trophy Finalist
The National Hockey League announced that Sharks forward Patrick Marleau has been named a finalist for the 2014 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.

SAN JOSE - The National Hockey League announced today that Sharks forward Patrick Marleau has been named a finalist for the 2014 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, given to the player to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.

Marleau, 34, ranked second on the Sharks in goals (33) and third in points (33-37=70). Playing in all 82 games this season, Marleau also ranked fifth in the NHL with 285 shots and eighth in power play goals with 11. The Aneroid, SK, native was tied for 11th in the league in goals and recorded his seventh 30-goal season. Marleau was one of five Sharks representatives at this year's Winter Olympics, leading team Canada in assists with four in six games. His 18 penalty minutes were tied for lowest among skaters with at least 70 points.

The 6-2, 220-pound forward is the Sharks all-time leader in goals (437), even strength goals (286), power play goals (130), points (891), shots (2,961), and games played (1,190). On January 17, 2011 versus, Marleau became the youngest player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-game mark with one team. He is also the third-quickest player to reach 1,000 career NHL games (31 years, 124 days). Only Dale Hawerchuk (30 years, 306 days) and former teammate Vincent Damphousse (31 years, 110 days) reached 1,000 games faster.

Marleau was also nominated for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy during the 2005-06 season, finishing third in voting that year. He is the only player in Sharks franchise history to have been a finalist for the award.

The winner of the 2014 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy will be announced on June 24 at the 2014 NHL Awards in Las Vegas. The award is selected by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season.
