The Sharks set out to make a statement against the big bad Kings in the final meeting of the regular season. Points mattered just as much as they will against the remaining four opponents on the schedule. But, in a nationally televised game that many feel will serve as a preview of a first round matchup, there was definitely something to prove.

You know it's a big game when the photoshops come out.

Being on NBCSN as a national game on the west coast meant following the early game which, of course, threatened to overlap puck drop for fans on the Pacific as Chicago and Minnesota stretched to overtime.

Finally.

First Period

But the start was not quite like the fast start the Sharks were aiming for.

The hits started early and continued all night. Tommy Wingels would finish with a season-high 10 hits.

Second Period

As always between the Kings and Sharks, special teams is a key measure. Brent Burns made Los Angeles pay on the power play with a shot that eventually was credited as a deflection by Joe Pavelski for his 39th of the season.

Couture finished on a perfectly mastered wraparound.

Someone or something really set Joe Thornton off last night. Jumbo then proceeded to hit everything in range for the remainder of the game and it was fun to watch!
