Sharks Sign Forward Ryan Carpenter
San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson announced that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Ryan Carpenter to an entry-level contract.

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@sanjosesharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Ryan Carpenter (@CarpyDeuces) to an entry-level contract.

Carpenter, 23, recorded 16 points (8-8=16) in 15 games for Bowling Green State University during his junior season in 2013-14. He returned to the Falcons lineup on Jan. 10 after missing the first 24 games of the season due to injury, and finished the season as the team leader in points per game (1.07). Carpenter led the Falcons to the WCHA Final Five, scoring two goals and three assists in three WCHA playoff games.

"Ryan has proven to be a very dynamic player in his three seasons playing under Bowling Green Head Coach Chris Bergeron," said Wilson. "He has shown significant leadership and scoring ability in his collegiate career and we look forward to his continued development. He's the kind of player that can play in all situations and fits the mold of the type of player our organization is looking for."

As a junior in 2012-13, the Oviedo, Florida, native led the team in goals (18) and points (33) and was named to the All-CCHA Second Team. In addition, Carpenter was named to the CCHA Scholar-Athlete team, was honored with the 2012-13 Dr. Ron Zwierlein Leadership Award and was named the 2012-13 Jim Sears Award winner as the team's most valuable player.

In 100 career collegiate games with Bowling Green, Carpenter registered 79 points (37-42=79) and 51 penalty minutes, while serving as team captain his sophomore and junior seasons. In his freshman season (2011-12), he was honored with the Bowling Green Rookie of the Year Award and led the team in assists (19) and points (30).

Prior to attending Bowling Green, Carpenter spent two seasons (2009-11) with Sioux City of the USHL, where he tallied 23 goals and 44 assists in 117 career games. He was teammates with fellow Sharks prospect Max Gaede both years with Sioux City.

The six-foot-one, 180-pound forward will report to Worcester of the American Hockey League.
