The battle of the Pacific. Over 100 days ago was the last time the Sharks saw a lead in the division. Finally they were granted a chance to reclaim it with less than a month of hockey to play. Sharks fans, management and players know all too well what home ice can mean in the playoffs. With the Ducks in town on Thursday night, sights were locked on taking a two point advantage.
The matchup I am looking fwd to watching tonight: Vlasic, who is +16 since the Olympic break, against his Team Canada mates Getzlaf & Perry— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) March 20, 2014
Looking like Ducks and Sharks are taking away time and space so far, as they say.— Eric Stephens (@icemancometh) March 21, 2014
Man the Sharks haven't scored on the power play in forever!
#SJSharks GOAL! Jumbo to Marleau on the power play!! Sharks lead 1-0.— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) March 21, 2014
My bad #SJShaks Marleau's shot hit inside of net, then dropped to crease. All his.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) March 21, 2014
Ducks have given up a PP goal for the 7th straight game as Sharks set up low & Marleau fires it short side top shelf to give SJ a 1-0 lead— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) March 21, 2014
Since March 19, the #SJSharks power play has been converting at 100%.— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) March 21, 2014
Both teams entered the night with notable special teams struggles.
HUGE save from @f_andersen30! Burns broke in alone, but Andersen stands tall and turns away his offering. That keeps the deficit at one.— Anaheim Ducks (@AnaheimDucks) March 21, 2014
Looks like tempers are starting to flare up a bit midway thru the 2nd. Me like!— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) March 21, 2014
Shhh... you'll jinx it!
Since we actually got a PP goal tonight, does that negate our chances at getting a shorty? #SJSharks— Scott McQ (@Satyr69) March 21, 2014
Aw, man! See!
Perreault scores on a rebound with Couture exiting the box. Tied at 1-1 on the power play goal #SJSharks— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) March 21, 2014
Stat check: #SJSharks ahead in shots (17-13), hits (23-22) and blocked shots (11-8). Won 54 percent of faceoffs, too. Still, a 1-1 game.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) March 21, 2014
Perry found a bit of puck luck with a bouncing puck but deserved credit for delivering a shot in traffic that eventually gets credited as a goal from Selanne for the tip.
Perry finds a bouncing puck in front and puts it in the net. #SJSharks now trail 2-1, early in the 3rd.— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) March 21, 2014
Jumbo shot the puck! Jumbo shot the puck!!!!! goal! #sjsharks— Chris Sampang (@chrissampang) March 21, 2014
