Plover, Wisconsin Declares 'Joe Pavelski Day'
SAN JOSE, CA - The City of Plover, Wisconsin will honor San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski by decreeing that Fri., Feb. 7, 2014 is "Joe Pavelski Day" in recognition of his achievements both on and off the ice.
Pavelski, a native of Plover, Wisconsin, played high school and college hockey in the state of Wisconsin, winning a State Championship with Stevens Point Area High School in 2002 and a NCAA Division 1 National Championship with the University of Wisconsin in 2006. Off the ice, Pavelski is active in giving back to the Portage County community, organizing and running youth hockey camps in the area as well as donating and participating in various community fundraisers.
This season, Pavelski ranks first on the team in goals (29), second on the team in points (54), and third on the team in assists (25). League-wide, Pavelski ranks T-3rd in the NHL in goals (29), tied for 12th in points (54), and is tied for 6th amongst forwards in blocked shots (49).
Pavelski was named the Sharks Brocade Player of the Month and the NHL's "Third Star of the Month" for January, finishing the month with 16 points (team-leading 12 goals, four assists) and registering a +7 in 15 games during the month. Pavelski scored his first career NHL hat trick in a 5-4 win at Tampa Bay on Jan. 18.
Pavelski also won the silver medal with Team USA in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and will represent the 2014 Team USA Olympic Team Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia from Feb. 13-23.
The five-foot-eleven, 190-pound native forward was originally selected by San Jose in the seventh round (205th overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft.
