Twitter Tales: #ExcellentExtensions
Dan Rusanowsky put it eloquently as only the voice of Sharks radio could. On the same night as a spectacle in Los Angeles for a Stadium Series outdoor hockey game, a Hollywood script was being written 400 miles north at SAP Center.
In poetic fashion, Sharks forwards Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau were the stars of the night just a day after agreeing to extend their current contracts with the team. Thanks to their effort, the Sharks extended a win streak to six games, following a defeat of the Minnesota Wild in extended action. Most excellent!
If you happened to miss any of the news of Jumbo and Patty's extensions, you can catch up here.
The Wild set out to ruin Thornton and Marleau's party early on.
Nice goal by Cooke. First he tips away pass from #SJSharks 19 to 7, then he chases puck down in o-zone and beats Niemi. MIN on board first.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) January 26, 2014
So Mike Brown attempted to inject some energy.
Tale of the Tape Brown 5'11" 201 lbs Stoner 6'4" 216 lbs My take is both took a couple - talk about taking one (or two) for the team— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 26, 2014
Things turned worse before they got better as the Sharks fell into a 2-0 hole.
That was Keith Ballard's first goal since the first game of the 2011 season -- Oct. 6, 2011.— Chad Graff (@ChadGraff) January 26, 2014
But Teal showed some resolve.
Boy, Justin Braun was flying up the ice on that rush a minute ago. Never seen him skate so fast— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) January 26, 2014
It was opposite day.
Wait, isn’t Thornton supposed to FEED Pavelski…? #sjsharks— Brodie Brazil (@brodiebrazilCSN) January 26, 2014
OH CAPTAIN CONGRATS ON YOUR EXTENSION #sjsharks— Micayla (@pavelstrick) January 26, 2014
Little bit of a knuckleball as Thornton converts on Pavelski pass after Irwin wrapped it around the wall. 2-1 #SJSharks trail now— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) January 26, 2014
But before the ink could dry, it was a tie game.
Now the other guy with the new contract extension comes through. Marleau converts after Wingels can't quite get shot off. #SJSharks tied 2-2— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) January 26, 2014
2 contracts extended and the 2 score! @SanJoseSharks tie up the game!— Brian Penders (@PendersBrian) January 26, 2014
@SanJoseSharks Can we have Thornton and Marleau sign contracts the day before every game.— Zane Mercer (@ZaneMerc37) January 26, 2014
Stuart's big hit on Prosser gives me an opportunity to remind #SJSharks fans that he and Hannan are NOT FUN to play against in the playoffs— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 26, 2014
The #SJSharks are 48-6-1 in games where Thornton and Marleau both score a goal— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) January 26, 2014
Burns and Nieto seem to have swapped lines for #SJSharks here early in the third.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) January 26, 2014
Not good at counting but I'm pretty sure 17,562 are here tonight. Again. pic.twitter.com/tCWrAnV4Ku— Brodie Brazil (@brodiebrazilCSN) January 26, 2014
Kerri Walsh trolls Kings and Ducks fans by repping Sharks Territory at the Stadium Series game in LA.
Both teams just got credit for killing a penalty, and did so b/c of 4 seconds of power play time. Well done #SJSharks and Wild— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 26, 2014
JOE WINS IT @SanJoseSharks! Two goals for the captain tonight!— Mark Anderson (@markanderson510) January 26, 2014
Thornton and Marleau agree to 3 year extensions and score all 3 goals tonight in a 3-2 OT win over the Wild. That's Wild! Awesome!— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 26, 2014
