Sharks Mourn the Passing of Scout Jack Gardiner

SAN JOSE, California - The San Jose Sharks organization would like to extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Scout Jack Gardiner, who passed away on Jan. 12 following a long battle with cancer.

Gardiner, who served as a professional hockey scout for nearly 35 years with the Sharks, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs, had worked with the San Jose scouting department since 2004, where he primarily focused on the eastern United States.

"Jack will be sorely missed by everyone who crossed paths with him over his many years working in the National Hockey League," said Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson. "He had a true love of the game of hockey and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers."

"Jack was a real hockey person and loved being at the rink," said Sharks Director of Scouting Tim Burke. "He was a friend to everyone and had a real good eye for identifying talent. Everyone who met Jack enjoyed being around him, and our scouting crew is better for having worked with him."

Gardiner also worked for the National Hockey League, working at the Central Scouting Bureau where he ranked and rated all amateur players for the NHL Draft.
