Four Sharks Selected for 2014 Winter Olympics
Patrick Marleau, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Antti Niemi and Joe Pavelski will play for their respective countries at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks (@sanjosesharks) Patrick Marleau (Canada), Marc-Edouard Vlasic (Canada), Antti Niemi (Finland) and Joe Pavelski (USA) have been selected to represent their respective countries at the 2014 Winter Olympics, set to take place in Sochi, Russia, from Feb. 7-23. Canada and Finland announced their rosters on Jan. 7 while Team USA announced its roster on Jan. 1.

Marleau helped Canada win the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and was selected to represent his country at four World Championship tournaments (1999, 2001, 2003, 2005), as well as a World Cup (2004). He recorded two goals and three assists in seven Olympic contests in 2010.

This season, the Aneroid, Saskatchewan native leads San Jose in goals (19) and ranks 2nd in points (41). Marleau ranks T-15th in the League in points and T-4th in shots on goal (164).

Vlasic was named to his first Olympic Games after representing Canada at two World Championship tournaments (2009, 2012). The native of Montreal, Quebec, currently ranks 3rd amongst San Jose defensemen in points (16) and 2nd on the team in blocked shots (74). Vlasic ranks 2nd amongst his 2005 draft class in games played (562).

Niemi will be making his first major international tournament appearance. The Vantaa, Finland native currently ranks T-2nd in the League in wins (22) and 1st in minutes played (2,158). Since joining San Jose in 2010-11, Niemi ranks 2nd in the NHL in wins (115) and has recorded 20 or more wins in five straight seasons.

Pavelski will be making his second Olympic appearance, previously helping the United States earn a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver (three assists in six games). He was also named to Team USA at the 2009 World Championship tournament.

The native of Plover, Wisconsin currently ranks 2nd on the Sharks in goals (18), T-2nd in assists (22) and 3rd in points (40). Pavelski ranks 18th in the League in points, T-15th in goals and T-6th amongst NHL forwards in blocked shots (42). Since 2007-08, Pavelski ranks 4th amongst all American-born skaters in points (348) in 476 games played.
