Prospect Mueller Tops Switzerland Camp Roster

Mirco Mueller, taken by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft, is one of 27 players invited to Switzerland's selection camp for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The Swiss camp will be held Dec. 16-18 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. The Swiss also will play a pair of pre-tournament games in Sweden, against the Czech Republic on Dec. 21 and Canada on Dec. 23.

The 2014 WJC runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2014, in Malmo, Sweden. Switzerland will be in Group B with Sweden, Russia, Finland and Norway.

Mueller, taken No. 18 by the Sharks, has two goals and six assists in 28 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League. He had two assists and a plus-7 rating in six games at the 2013 WJC for Switzerland, which finished sixth.

Mueller is one of two players invited to the camp that has been drafted by an NHL team. Right wing Fabrice Herzog was a 2013 fifth-round pick (No. 142) of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has 18 goals and nine assists in 31 games with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Of the 27 players invited to the Swiss camp, 24 are eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft. That group includes seven players ranked as B or C prospects on NHL Central Scouting's November players to watch list.

Among that group is left wing Kevin Fiala, who earned a B ranking. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound left wing has eight goals and 13 assists in 19 games with HV71's team in Sweden's under-20 league.

Also on Central Scouting's list are defensemen Phil Baltisberger and Yannick Rathgeb, who earned C ratings among Ontario Hockey League prospects. Baltisberger, a 6-0.5, 212-pounder has 10 assists and a plus-17 rating in 27 games with the Guelph Storm. Rathgeb (6-0.5, 189) has nine points in 29 games with the Plymouth Whalers.

Switzerland also invited one 2015 draft-eligible player, defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler. The 6-1, 231-pounder has six points in 21 games with Swiss club Zurich's team in the domestic under-20 league.
