Oakland Mayor Jean Quan to Drop Puck at USA Hockey Women's National Championship Game
Nation's Top Female Hockey Tournament Continues Through This Weekend
The Sharks Ice family of rinks (San Jose, Fremont and Oakland) is playing host to over 2,000 hockey players from the Nation's best female hockey teams at the 2013 USA Hockey National Championships for Girls Tier I & II (held in San Jose and Fremont), and Women's Sr. A, B, & C (held in Oakland and Fremont), through Sun., April 7, 2013.
"Mayor Quan has always been a huge supporter of women's sports and the Oakland Ice Center and she recognizes it as a valuable community asset," said Oakland Ice Center General Manager Melissa Fitzgerald. "In addition to showcasing the City of Oakland through events such as the USA Hockey Women's National Championships, the OIC has also been a significant resource in providing accessible activities for thousands of Oakland children each year."
The tournament play in Oakland features over 400 players on 28 of the top women's squads from around the country. Championship games will begin at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday featuring the top two Senior A level teams, followed by the Senior C division at 2:30 p.m., and the Senior B's at 5 p.m.
