Sharks Sign Forward Rylan Schwartz

SAN JOSE, California - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forward Rylan Schwartz to an entry-level contract.

Schwartz, 23, led all NCAA scorers this season, posting 53 points (20 goals, 33 assists) in 41 games during his senior season at Colorado College, where was an assistant captain. Amongst all NCAA players he ranked 13th in goals (20) and 3rd in assists (33). Schwartz also had two game-winning goals, five power play goals and 2 short-handed goals. He was named to both the All-WCHA team as well as the All-WCHA Academic Team for his accomplishments both on and off the ice. He recorded 10 points (five goals, five assists) in six post-season games.

"Rylan had a very impressive season with Colorado College under Head Coach Scott Owens," said Wilson. "He has improved each of his four collegiate seasons and we look forward to helping him continue to develop and advance his career."

As a junior in 2011-12, Schwartz registered 40 points (23 goals, 17 assists) in 35 games. Amongst all NCAA players he ranked T-8th in goals (23) and 3rd in points per game (1.36 PTS/GP). In February of 2011, Schwartz became the 73rd member of Colorado College's Century Club, accruing 100 or more points in his career with the university.

In 156 career collegiate games Schwartz was a point per game player, notching 159 points (59 goals, 100 assists) and 167 penalty minutes. He has received Colorado College's annual Tony Frasca Award for playoff MVP, been named to the All-WCHA team, been named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team and served as an assistant captain.

Prior to attending Colorado College, Schwartz played for the Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In his final year with Notre Dame he was named league MVP, compiling 88 points (39 goals, 49 assists) and winning the SJHL scoring title.

Schwartz is a five-foot-ten, 205-pound native of Wilcox, Saskatchewan.

His brother, Jaden, currently plays for the St. Louis Blues.
