SAN JOSE, California - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has recalled right wing Matt Pelech from the Worcester Sharks, the team's top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
Pelech, 25, is fifth in the American Hockey League in penalty minutes (181). In 37 games, he has posted four assists and 34 shots. He began the season as a defenseman and was converted to right wing in January.
In his San Jose Sharks debut on Feb. 11 at Columbus, Pelech registered five penalty minutes in 11:23 minutes of ice time. Previously he played five games with Calgary in 2008-09, posting three points (0-3=3).
The six-foot-four, 235-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was originally selected in the first round (26th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2005 NHL Draft. He was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 6, 2011.
In a separate transaction, forward James Sheppard was placed on the Injured Reserve.
