Sharks Reassign RW Matt Pelech to Worcester

SAN JOSE, California -- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has reassigned right wing Matt Pelech to the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Pelech, 25, made his Sharks debut on Feb. 11 at Columbus and posted a game-high five hits and accumulated five penalty minutes. He currently ranks fourth in the American Hockey League in penalty minutes (177) with Worcester. In 34 AHL games this season, he has posted four assists and 29 shots. He began the season as a defenseman and was converted to right wing in January.

The six-foot-four, 235-pound native of Toronto, Ontario was originally selected in the first round (26th overall) by the Calgary Flames in the 2005 NHL Draft. He was signed by San Jose as a free agent on July 6, 2011.
