Sharks Foundation Holding Annual "Share the Warmth" Drive

Tuesday, 01.15.2013 / 6:36 PM / News

SAN JOSE, California
- The Sharks Foundation will host “Share The Warmth” drives at their home games on Jan. 27th (vs. Vancouver) and Jan. 29 (vs. Anaheim) to support Sacred Heart Community Services (SHCS).

Sharks fans can assist by dropping off new or gently used blankets and jackets or by making monetary donations as they enter the North or South Entrances of HP Pavilion at San Jose.

All donors will receive a raffle ticket for a drawing to be held that night, with prizes including autographed Sharks items. Raffle winners will be announced on the Video Board during the first intermission and must claim their prize at the Sharks Foundation’s new location at Section 118 before the end of the second intermission.

Items donated during the drives will be donated to Sacred Hearth Community Services and will be distributed via the Clothes Closet. Over 300 families a day come through the Clothes Closet to find clothing for their family, a suit for an interview, a blanket during the cold winter, or a pair of shoes for work. All of the clothing, bedding, and linens are donated through the generosity of individual donors and over 35 schools, churches, and agencies a year.

ABOUT SACRED HEART COMMUNITY SERVICES:
SHCS was founded in 1964 with the mission to ensure that every child and adult is free from poverty. Over 1,500 customers walk through their doors daily to access a wide range of services. The programs, from basic needs to education, are offered comprehensively under one roof and are free of charge to the customers.

ABOUT THE SHARKS FOUNDATION:
The Sharks Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of youth and families in our community with an emphasis in the areas of Education, Heath and Safety, and Character Development. The Sharks Foundation supplies emergency aid when appropriate, executes unique and relevant programming, supports the advancement of youth hockey and provides financial support and resources to organizations that enrich the lives of those in need. Although the San Jose Sharks and the Sharks Foundation support a variety of community programs on various levels, we feel that the key to the long-term well-being of our community is our youth.

The San Jose Sharks are as deeply involved with the neighborhood we live in as we are with the game that we play. As role models, we feel responsible to give back to the community that so strongly supports us. To this end, the Sharks Foundation was created in 1994 in an effort to increase our organizational impact on Santa Clara County. With the help of Sharks players, coaches and staff, the Sharks Foundation invests in the community with the hope of enhancing the lives of our youth. It quickly evolved and expanded beyond its original charter and has since donated over $4.1 million to more than 85 local beneficiaries. During the 2009-10 season, its contribution to local youth programs and organizations totaled $256,898 through monetary grants. In addition to the original grant program, the Sharks Foundation manages educational programs, hosts major fundraisers, executes pledge programs and implements community outreach events.
