Sharks Prospects Kuraly and Hertl Named to 2013 World Junior Championship Teams

San Jose, California - USA Hockey today announced that San Jose Sharks prospect forward Sean Kuraly has been named to Team USA's 2013 World Junior Championship Team and forward Tomas Hertl has been named to the Czech Republic's 2013 World Junior Championship Team.

The 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Ufa, Russia from Dec. 26, 2012 to Jan. 5, 2013. Select games from the tournament will be televised in the United States on the NHL Network.

In a pair of tune-up games held before the tournament, Kuraly contributed one assist. That assist came on the game winning goal in a 3-2 overtime win over Sweden where Kuraly won an offensive zone faceoff to set up defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere for the score.

Kuraly, 19, also took part in the 2012 US National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY from Aug. 4-11, 2012. Kuraly ended the camp tied for the lead in points, posting four goals and two assists in three games played.

A freshman at Miami of Ohio, Kuraly has three goals and one assist in 18 games.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Dublin, Ohio was selected by the Sharks in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

The 19-year-old Hertl represented the Czech Republic at the 2012 World Junior Championship. There, he finished tied for first on the team in points (3-2=5) to go along with a +2 rating. Hertl was selected as one of the Czech Republic's top players in the tournament by a panel of coaches.

This season for HC Slavia Praha in the Czech Extraliga, Hertl has posted 22 points (12-10=22) in 29 games. Along with leading Slavia Praha in goal scoring and tied for first on the team in points, Hertl has been named a player of the game five times. He also won gold with the Czech Republic at the 2012 Karjala Cup, an annual tournament held between national teams from Russia, Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Praha, Czech Republic was selected by the Sharks in the first round (17th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
