First Look at the Prospect Report

Wednesday, 10.10.2012 / 8:15 PM / News

Sharks prospect J.P. Anderson has started his season off with a bang for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL. The 20 year old netminder has started six out of seven games for Sarnia this year, posting a 2.43 GAA and a .930 SV% in those appearances. Along with his save percentage ranking third in the OHL for goaltenders with at least four starts, Anderson has been a star of the game in four out of six tilts he has appeared in this season. Those star of the game performances include a 32 save outing on Monday against the Windsor Spitfires and an impressive 47 appearance during a 2-1 victory over the Owen Sound Attack on September 29.

Tomas Hertl, the Sharks first round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, is also finding his rhythm during his second season for HC Slavia Praha in the Czech Extraliga. In 10 games Hertl has scored 3 goals and a pair of assists, twice earning co-player of the game honors during the month of September.

On the defensive front, Dylan Demelo (Mississauga Steelheads, OHL) and Konrad Abelthauser (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL) are also putting up some good offensive numbers for their respective clubs.

The mobile Demelo potted a power play assist during a 4-3 overtime win over Brampton this past weekend, giving him one goal and five assists in seven games this season. Demelo, who had 47 points and was a +9 for the Mississauga Steelheads during 2011-12, also got valuable experience playing in the AHL for the Worcester Sharks last year following the completion of his OHL season. In four AHL games last season he delivered a solid +3 rating and added an assist.

Konrad Abeltshauser, San Jose’s 6th round selection in the 2010 NHL Draft, is another defenseman who has had a good offensive start to the year. In seven games for the Halifax Mooseheads Abeltshauser has notched nine assists and helped his team achieve a 6-1-0 overall record. Abeltshauser’s ability to produce points is nothing new, as he posted 8 goals and 44 points during Halifax’s 2011-12 campaign.

More Sharks prospects will be getting underway in the coming weeks as Junior teams continue their season, college players begin their seasons this week, and the Worcester Sharks drop the puck on October 12.
