"Lady Sharks" Visit Los Gatos Meadows Geriatric Hospital

On Wednesday, March 28th the wives and girlfriends of San Jose Sharks players paid a visit to residents of Los Gatos Meadows Geriatric Hospital as part of their monthly community service campaign in conjunction with the Sharks Foundation.
Each month, the Sharks Foundation asks one lady to choose a cause close to her heart to which Sharks Foundation staff and fellow wives and girlfriends can lend their time. March's volunteer outing was spearheaded by Tabea Thornton, who said, "I found it extremely rewarding to see how our visit brightened up these people's lives. Hearing their stories (some funny, some wise and some sad) and seeing the smiles definitely brightened up my day. I left with a big smile and with the certainty to come back."
The visit came as a pleasant surprise to the hospital residents, who enjoyed singing, games, manicures and conversing with the "Lady Sharks" in the facility's primary activity center. For many of the residents, the morning served as a perfect opportunity to share stories about their children, grandchildren and impressive careers as pilots, teachers, nurses and homemakers. The ladies were happy to listen to the tales and divulge anecdotes of their own. Eventually, the laughter and chatter emanating from the room turned the activity into an impromptu gathering of staff and residents alike.
After a tour of the hospital's multiple facilities, the hospital staff expressed appreciation for the ladies' volunteer efforts, welcoming back their companionship any time. Activities Coordinator, Chandra Raju, said, "The visit was wonderful, and it was a lot of excitement for the residents to see young ladies spending their valuable time with them. I wish there were more young people like the Shark's wives, who come visit the nursing homes to bring and spread happiness . The residents said that the guys are so lucky to have these beautiful young women."
