\"Sharks and Strikes\" Event Provides for Pediatric Clinic

SAN JOSE, California
– November 14th was just another Monday in the Bay Area, but for about 200 Sharks Fans, this day was anything but ordinary. The inaugural "Sharks and Strikes" charity bowling tournament kicked off at 5 p.m. and fans were right on time for this exciting new fundraiser benefiting the "Sharks Pediatric Clinic at Valley Heath Center Tully" redesign project. From inside 300 San Jose, the sound of pins crashing and exciting chatter could be heard while participants enjoyed bowling with Sharks players, coaches and broadcasters.

With bowling being a fun, family-friendly event, it was only fitting that the beneficiary of the night was a pediatric clinic treating youth patients. "It was great to see kids running around and having a good time" said Sharks Foundation staffer Casey Meyers. "The look on their face as they met their favorite players was priceless."

Sharks players bowled with guests throughout the night and lovable mascot S.J. Sharkie even bowled a few frames, getting four strikes in a row at one point. In between frames, bowlers enjoyed delicious food and checked out unique raffle and silent auction items. After several games and many autographs, the Sharks players and participants listened to Sharks personality Dan Rusanowsky announce the winners of the evening. Tournament winners walked away with custom Sharks bowling pins signed by the team and participants will receive specially designed Sharks bowling shirts.

At the end of the night, the "Sharks and Strikes" Charity Bowling Fundraiser brought in more than $33,000 for the "Sharks Pediatric Clinic at Valley Health Center Tully." This initiative - the largest Sharks Foundation project in over a decade - will transform one of the busiest and largest child health clinics in the area into a Sharks-themed environment, creating a more positive setting for young patients to receive treatment. In addition, the project will include a "Healthy Living" campaign utilizing the popularity of mascot S.J. Sharkie to promote health, wellness and physical activity among youth in the community. In total, more than 6,000 patients a month will be impacted. The project is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2012.
