Annual Tournament Raises Tens of Thousands of Dollars to Aid Local Charities

The annual Sharks Foundation Golf Classic, presented by Silver Creek Sportsplex, took place at the scenic Cinnabar Hills Golf Club on Wednesday. Annually the Sharks Foundation's largest fundraiser, the event provides Sharks fans and corporate partners the chance to interact with the players in a relaxed and entertaining setting.

With training camp opening up in a few days, it was an excellent event for the players to find their way around a golf course one more time before the real work starts.
"It was a good day and the weather was beautiful," said defenseman Jay Leach. "It's for a great cause and it's a great tournament."
Players who showed off their golf games included Derek Joslin who captured one of the longest drive holes and Dan Boyle who captured a closest to the pin hole with a shot landing within five feet.
As for the team scores, Joslin's crew captured the lowest gross score title while Dany Heatley's foursome won the net total, which included handicaps.
The key part of the day is the player participation, and because of their caring, the tournament raised tens of thousands of dollars for local charities.
"It's our largest fundraiser of the year and we had our best attendance ever with 224 participants," said Sharks Executive Vice President of Business Operations Malcolm Bordelon. "We expect to raise more than $75,000 that will help provide critical services for youth in Santa Clara County."
