2011 Sharks Foundation Golf Classic Raises Over $100K
The annual Sharks Foundation Golf Classic presented by Silver Creek Sportsplex welcomes the excitement of each new hockey season by gathering the newest assembled Sharks squad together for the very first time.
This year's tournament was successfully able to capitalize on the excitement; it raised over $100,000 for the Sharks Foundation and set a new record.
The tournament was again played at Cinnabar Hills Golf Club, which features 27 fascinating holes perched on hills and splitting canyons in south San Jose near Morgan Hill. The Sharks Foundation's most successful single fundraising event features opportunities for golfing participants to pair with Sharks players, coaches, alumni, and broadcasters in a shotgun start, scramble style of play.
In total, over 220 non-Sharks participants joined the squad on a beautifully sunny day. Many of the holes throughout the course were setup providing additional challenges and prizes for all of the participants.
Porsche was on hand with three of its high performance model vehicles as some added pressure on three of the par threes. The first golfer who was able to sink a hole-in-one at these select holes would drive away with the free Porsche. There was no such luck this year.
Other unique contests had Sony PlayStation giving away a gaming and entertainment package to the winner of the putting contest. Double D's Sports Grille awarded the longest drive winner of the day who turned out to be newly acquired Sharks defenseman Colin White. 300 San Jose provided the aptly named closest to the pin contest. And S.J. Sharkie was also on hand to feature his ever favorite "Hit the Mascot" challenge.
It was a long day of fun, but thankfully JW Catering and a host of beverage sponsors were on hand to refuel and refresh. Score Clinic was also popular among many of the Sharks players as they finished the course and welcomed the post-play massages.
But the event still thrived as a dinner and an award ceremony rounded out the evening activities. Inside the clubhouse participants could redeem any disappointments from the links by capturing one-of-a-kind auction and raffle items that included mountain bikes, signed memorabilia, vacation packages, and more.
Former Sharks player Curtis Brown was part of the team that combined for the best score on the day, but the true champion of the event will be the youth and families of Santa Clara County who will directly benefit from the generosity of over 300 people who were influential in making the 2011 Sharks Foundation Golf Classic presented by Silver Creek Sportsplex a record setting success.
