SAN JOSE, California — The San Jose Sharks announced today that center and team captain Joe Thornton has been selected as the Brocade “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of March. The award will be presented to Thornton prior to tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars.

Thornton led the team in points (13) and assists (11) in 16 games. He had four multiple-point games, including three assists on Mar. 9 at Dallas. This marks the second consecutive month Thornton has received this honor.

Established in the 1996-97 season, the Brocade “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month. Brocade will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Brocade “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season and Brocade will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
