Nyjer Morgan to Practice With Sharks Wednesday
SAN JOSE, California – Bay Area native, and current Milwaukee Brewers outfielder, Nyjer Morgan will join the San Jose Sharks on the ice at their practice on Wednesday, Feb. 1 that is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m at Sharks Ice at San Jose.

Morgan, 31, who also goes by the alter-ego “Tony Plush”, grew up playing hockey and played seven games for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League posting two goals and 20 penalty minutes. Born in San Francisco, Morgan is a devout Sharks fan and on his correspondent piece for “Rome Is Burning”, was shown going to the ballpark in his black Sharks sweater that featured the name bar of “Plush” and his number two.

"I'm really excited to get on the ice with the team,” said Morgan. “I've been a diehard fan since the team came to San Jose in 1991. I will never forget the George Kingston and Patty Falloon days. I'm not sure the guys are ready for me!"

Deciding after the 1999-00 season to focus solely on pursuing a baseball career, Morgan was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. Since making his debut with the Pirates on Sept. 1, 2007, he has gone on to accumulate a career .288 batting average with 114 RBI and 105 stolen bases in 461 career regular season games.

“T-Plush” is coming off a career season in which he hit .304 and finished third in the National League in hit by pitches (14) and sacrifice hits (15). His campaign was punctuated with a dramatic 10th inning walk-off, series-clinching hit in Game 5 of the National League Division Series against Arizona giving the Brewers their first playoff series win since 1982.

“We’re excited to see what he can do out here,” said Sharks captain Joe Thornton, who shares the same July 2nd birthday as Morgan. “We knew he had a hockey background and when we saw him on Jim Rome wearing our sweater, we wanted to invite him to get on the ice with us.”
