Wingels Named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
In four games last week Wingels recorded four goals, two assists and a plus-6 rating as the Sharks closed out a seven-game road swing having earned 11 of a possible 14 standings points.
On Tuesday night in Springfield, Wingels’ shorthanded goal proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Worcester win, and he scored twice more on Friday as the Sharks defeated Albany, 5-1. Wingels notched another game-winning goal as well as an assist in Saturday’s 5-2 win in Binghamton, and then finished the week by setting up the only Worcester score in a 3-1 loss at Manchester on Sunday.
Wingels recorded 10 points (seven goals, three assists), including four game-winning goals, and a plus-11 rating during the Sharks’ seven-game road stretch from Dec. 4-18, helping Worcester to a 5-1-0-1 mark in that time.
Wingels has totaled 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 23 games with Worcester this season, and also picked up his first career NHL point with an assist during a three-game stint with San Jose. The 23-year-old native of Evanston, Ill., was drafted by San Jose in 2008 and notched 33 points (17 goals, 16 assists) in 69 games with Worcester as a rookie in 2010-11.
In recognition of his achievement, Wingels will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Sharks home game.
