SAN JOSE, California -- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed left wing Brad Winchester to a one-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Winchester, 30, appeared in five preseason contests for the Sharks while in camp on a PTO, posting two points (1-1=2) and a team-leading 18 penalty minutes.
In 2010-11, Winchester split the season between St. Louis and Anaheim posting 16 points (10-6=16) and 114 penalty minutes in 76 regular season games. He appeared in three postseason games with Anaheim and registered four penalty minutes.
The seven-year NHL veteran has appeared in 323 career regular season games with Edmonton, Dallas, St. Louis and Anaheim posting 58 career points (31-27=58) and 464 penalty minutes. He has added three points (1-2=3) and 26 penalty minutes in 23 career postseason games.
“We feel that our training camp was as competitive as it ever has been and Brad came into it and earned a spot on our roster,” stated Wilson. “He brings a rugged, veteran presence to our lineup and he does whatever it takes to be a good teammate.”
The six-foot-five, 230-pound native of Madison, Wisconsin was originally selected by Edmonton in the second round (35th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
