Sharks Foundation To Help Relief Efforts In Japan
Foundation Will Accept Monetary Donations And Hold A Used-Stick Auction
“The Sharks Foundation has quickly developed a plan that we hope will not only aid in the relief efforts of this event, but also increase awareness of a desperate need,” said Sharks Foundation Manager Jeff Cafuir. “Though Japan is across the Pacific Ocean and thousands of miles away, the effects of the tragedy have been felt by many people in the Bay Area.”
On Wed., March 23 (vs. Calgary) and again on Thu., March 31 (vs. Dallas) monetary donations will be collected at both the North and South Entrances of HP Pavilion prior to each game’s start. After the puck drops, donations will continue to be accepted at the Sharks Foundation booth, located just outside of section 124 on the concourse level. Cash and checks made payable to the Sharks Foundation will each be accepted.
In addition to direct donations, the Sharks Foundation will hold a special used stick auction. Members of the Sharks will donate and autograph a used stick for the auction. Half of the sticks will be auctioned on March 23 and the other half on March 31. The auction will follow the traditional blind format rules outlined here.
All of the money earned from direct donations and the two-night auction will go directly to the Red Cross disaster relief efforts in Japan.
“If the passion and dedication involved with sports can be turned into support during a time of need, then we will be taking full advantage of our potential to help,” Cafuir said. “Time and time again, our fans have shown a willingness to donate to aid in disaster relief efforts and we hope this time is no exception.”
