SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent right wing James Livingston to an entry-level contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Livingston has spent the last five seasons playing in the Ontario Hockey League where he played parts of four seasons for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds before being traded in 2009-10 to the Plymouth Whalers. In 57 games for Plymouth this season he has tied his career high in goals (21) and set career highs in assists (28) and points (46).
“We are excited about James joining the San Jose Sharks organization,” said Wilson. “He is a big winger who is not afraid to go to the tough areas to score goals, but is also very responsible defensively. We are looking forward to watching him develop in our system.”
The six-foot-one, 210-pound native of Newmarket, Ontario has amassed 172 points (81 goals, 91 assists) and 478 penalty minutes in 311 career OHL games.
Livingston was originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the third round (70th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
