This photo from Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal at HP Pavilion against the Colorado Avalanche may not have been the most dramatic goal Joe Pavelski scored in the 2010-2011 postseason, but many observers consider it a pivotal tally in the run to the Western Conference Final. It was scored on the PP, and provided SJ a 2-0 cushion on the way to a 5-0 victory, securing a 3-2 games series lead over the Avs.
Featured on a printed artist canvas, the photo depicts Av’s goalie Craig Anderson scrambling to get back in the net after a fake shot from the point by Dan Boyle, who passed it across the blueline to Pavelski. Pavelski’s one timer sailed under a leaping Setoguchi, providing the screen. A startled Adam Foote of the Avs and former Sharks forward Manny Malhotra were ready to pounce on the rebound – of which there was none.
Joe Pavelski, fresh off helping to lead Team USA to a silver medal at the 2010 Olympics, would solidify his name in Sharks lore for ages with his performance in these playoffs and create a new nickname—“Big Joe” Pavelski.
This canvas (22Hx33W) is signed by #8 Joe Pavelski and #16 Devin Setoguchi.
