SAN JOSE – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has assigned center Tommy Wingels to the Worcester Sharks, the team’s top development affiliate.

Wingels, 22, made his NHL debut with San Jose on Oct. 8 against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Stockholm, Sweden.

Wingels spent the last three seasons with Miami University (Ohio) amassing 99 points (43-56=99) in 127 games played. He helped Miami to consecutive Frozen Four appearances in the last two seasons, including the championship game in 2008-09.

Last season, Wingels was named captain and finished second on the team in goals (17), fourth in points (17-26=43) and second in game-winning goals (5). His 43 points were tied for 33rd among all NCAA scorers. Following the season, he was named to the 2009-10 CCHA All-Conference Second Team and named CCHA’s “Best Defensive Forward”.

The 6-foot, 195-pound native of Evanston, IL was selected by San Jose in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
