SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed unrestricted free agent forwards Michael Sgarbossa and Curt Gogol alongside unrestricted free agent goaltender J.P. Anderson to entry-level contracts. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

SHARKS SIGN FORWARD MICHAEL SGARBOSSA

Sgarbossa, 18, appeared in two of San Jose’s three games during the YoungStars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. from Sept. 12-16 and recorded three goals and one assist, including a hat trick on Sept. 15 vs. Edmonton. His four points were second overall in the tournament.

“We have been watching Michael for a while now and he showed a glimpse of what we feel he is capable of at the YoungStars Tournament,” said Wilson. “We really like the teaching he has received from Saginaw General Manager and Head Coach Todd Watson and we hope to continue his development.”

Sgarbossa was a member of Team Canada’s silver medal-winning squad at the 2010 U-18 World Junior Championships, where he posted two points (one goal, one assist) and four penalty minutes in six games.

The Campbellville, Ontario native split time last season between the Barrie Colts and the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League. In 67 games, Sgarbossa recorded 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists) and 63 penalty minutes.

In six postseason games with Saginaw, Sgarbossa tallied two assists.

SHARKS SIGN GOALTENDER J.P. ANDERSON

“We really like what J.P. has shown us and we think he has tremendous upside,” said Wilson. “We like that he will continue to develop under Mississauga General Manager/Head Coach Dave Cameron and we will be monitoring his progress.”

Anderson, 18, appeared in two of San Jose’s three games during the YoungStars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. from Sept. 12-16 and posted a 2-0 record, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.

The Toronto, Ontario native spent the past two seasons with Mississauga of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Last season, he posted a 23-10-1 record with a 2.60 goals-against average and two shutouts in 36 games.

In the post season, Anderson had a 4-5-1 record in 10 games, along with a 2.78 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

During the 2008-09 season, Anderson led all OHL rookie goaltenders with a 2.94 goals-against average and his 2.50 GAA during the 2009 postseason was the best of any OHL netminder.

SHARKS SIGN FORWARD CURT GOGOL

“Curt has made great progress as a player over the last two seasons,” said Wilson. “We are pleased to add him to our organization and look forward to working with him to further his development, which has excelled under Saskatoon General Manager and Head Coach Lorne Molleken.”

Gogol, 18, appeared in all three Sharks games during the YoungStars Tournament in Penticton, B.C. from Sept. 12-16 and recorded 18 penalty minutes.

The Calgary, Alberta native spent parts of the last three seasons with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL before being traded to the Saskatoon Blades. In 43 combined games with Kelowna and Saskatoon last year, Gogol had seven points (one goal, six assists) along with 149 penalty minutes.

In 10 postseason games with the Blades, Gogol added four points (one goal, three assists) while adding 23 penalty minutes.
