On Saturday morning Art Savage, the Sharks first president, passed away at his home at the age of 58. Savage ran the Sharks from the early days in the Cow Palace through their first playoff runs at the current HP Pavilion.
“We are saddened to learn today of the passing of Art Savage,” said Sharks President and Chief Executive Officer Greg Jamison. “He was a wonderful person for all who had the pleasure to know him. Professionally, it was Art’s progressive thinking that helped bring the Sharks and major league sports to San Jose. His innovative approach as the Sharks first president is what allowed the club to thrive from the moment it was conceived. We will miss him greatly and send our best wishes to his family.”
Savage moved on from the Sharks to become the successful owner of the Sacrament River Cats and saw the franchise win three Triple-A championships.
