The San Jose Sharks could get a huge boost tonight as all indications show Joe Pavelski making his return to action. Pavelski has not played in a game since the second game of the season, but has been skating and traveling with the club in anticipation of his return.

“It looks that way,” said Pavelski about playing. “It’s pretty exciting to get back. “We knew it was getting close so I started showing up early and sitting in on meetings.”

“We should have Joe Pavelski back,” said Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan. “It’s a nice boost for the club. He worked hard to get back earlier than expected. Now we’ll see if he can make a difference.”

Pavelski was actively involved in the morning skate and felt good following the practice.

“We did more battle drills and that felt good,” said Pavelski.

Battling is one of the attributes the Wisconsin native brings to the table every night.

“He competes and he’s hard on loose pucks,” said Patrick Marleau, who was skating with Pavelski in the early going. “He creates turnovers and that creates goals.”

The final decision will be made following the pregame warmups.

“He (McLellan) has to feel comfortable and I have to feel comfortable,” said Pavelski.

Where Pavelski will play and who with will depend on the circumstances dictated by the game as he noted he could play in the middle or on the wing.

STILL SPECIAL
Bob Errey won Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh as a player and currently is a broadcaster for the Penguins. Yet he still has a soft spot for the Sharks as he captained the franchise in their first year playing in San Jose and was part of the historic upset against Detroit in 1994.

Coming from a championship team to one that had just set an NHL record with 71 losses may have been too big of a task for some, but not for Errey.

“I came here and really embraced the situation,” said Errey who vividly recalled addressing the San Jose crowd after the last regular season game as the fans chanted ‘Beat Detroit’.

Because of the actions of Errey and his teammates on the ice, Sharks fans feel they can win any playoff series, no matter what their seed. It is a lasting legacy and that team deserves a lot of credit for the Sharks being one of the best expansion moves in the NHL’s history.

“I still have a special feeling when I come back here,” said Errey. “There is a little tingle.”

BLAKE UPDATE
Rob Blake has taken an MRI, but the results won’t be known until prior to Saturday’s game time.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Marleau has been selected as the Sharks Foundation “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of October. The award will be presented to him prior to tonight’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Marleau posted 19 points (10-9=19) in 14 games during the month of October, including 2 game-winning goals, along with posting a +4 rating. He became the fastest Shark to reach 10 goals in a season, notching his 10th goal in the team’s 13th game.

NEXT GAME
The Sharks will play Pittsburgh Saturday night at HP Pavilion and the game will be on CSN California, 98.5 KFOX and sjsharks.com.
