Sharks center Torrey Mitchell’s return to the ice for the playoffs last year showed his previously broken leg was healed, but he will likely miss a few days of training camp with a case of tendonitis.
“We want him to play without any uncertainties, so going forward he may not be there the first couple of days of camp,” said Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson.
A little rest now will help prevent any long term problems.
“Structurally, everything is great,” said Wilson. “Torrey is a very important part of our team and we don’t want anything like tendonitis getting in the way.”
RUMORS
Last evening was a crazy one for Sharks fans as several outlets ran reports of a confirmed trade. Come to find out, that was the farthest thing from the truth.
“I grew up in a time when you confirmed something,” said Wilson.
Wilson was not worried about the rumors affecting the player, Patrick Marleau in this case, or any other player down the line.
“Our players know the reality,” said Wilson. “He and I know what the truth is and so does his agent.”
BACK IN BLACK
The Sharks will don their black sweaters this season at all Tuesday and Thursday home games. The dates will total 15 games for the season, all at HP Pavilion.
17,562
HP Pavilion now has a new seating capacity. The previous total of 17,496 has been updated to 17,562 due to seats being added by the broadcasters moving in the direction of the press box.
TRAINING CAMP
The first day of training camp action will take place on Sunday with the first scrimmage open to the public running from 11:15-12:30 p.m. There is no on ice session on Saturday.
