San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has re-signed Group III unrestricted free agent defenseman Kent Huskins to a two-year contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Huskins, 30, recently finished his third NHL season in 2008-09. He recorded six points (two goals, four assists) in 33 games with Anaheim but missed most of the season due to a broken foot. He was traded to San Jose on March 4, 2009, along with forward Travis Moen, in exchange for prospects Timo Pielmeier and Nick Bonino as well as a conditional draft selection.
“Kent played an important role on a Stanley Cup winning team and knows what it takes to win,” said Wilson. “He is a player that can play in all situations and does whatever is necessary to get the job done on this ice.”
In 142 NHL games with Anaheim, the six-foot-four, 205-pound defenseman has posted 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) and tallied 100 penalty minutes. He is a plus-26 in his career. In 27 Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has recorded two assists and is a plus-13. He was a member of Anaheim’s 2007 Stanley Cup-winning team, playing in all 21 playoff and Cup Final games.
The Almonte, Ontario native was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
