For Ryane Clowe, re-signing with San Jose was simply a matter of getting done what he wanted to get done.

“You’ve got to think about the number one thing,” said Clowe. “I love San Jose. It’s where I started and got my opportunity to play. Normally when you want something, it gets worked out.”

Clowe, while stationed on a line for most of the season with Joe Pavelski and Milan Michalek, has become one of the NHL’s better power forwards in recent years.

“We had some success and we’ve talked about how we need to have more in the playoffs,” said Clowe. “We need to step up and be leaders on this team.”

Wilson was happy with the signing as Clowe is the type of player the Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson wants around at crunch time.

“Ryan is an important part of this team,” said Wilson. “We really believe he is just coming into his prime. He has a passion for the game. Those are the people you want. Those who it matters to and who will do something about it.”

“I pride myself on playing night in and night out,” said Clowe.

As far as who his teammates will be next year, Clowe believes Wilson will make the right choices to get the league’s top regular season team over the playoff hump.

“We’re confident in the group and that the right changes will be made,” said Clowe. “We’ll have a solid group to work with.”

Reports have the four-year deal worth around $3.5 million a year, but Wilson referred to it as “fair and equitable for both sides.”

Clowe is back in his native Newfoundland, but should be returning to San Jose a little later in the summer.
