Sharks Deliver Increased Ratings on CSN

As the San Jose Sharks head into the All-Star break following their record-breaking first half of the season, more fans across Northern California are tuning into Sharks hockey on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, the home of “Authentic Bay Area Sports,” has posted significant ratings increases for its Sharks telecasts through the first half of the 2008-09 season. Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s Sharks ratings averaged a 1.3 household rating for the first half of the season (39 telecasts) – a 44% increase over 2007-08’s first half. Approximately 31,500 households are watching per game.

In the last 10 games, the Sharks have averaged a 1.4 household rating. Additionally, the Sharks have achieved a 1.6 or higher household rating for 9 games this season (compared to zero games of 1.6 or greater in the first half of the 2007-08 season) and 18 telecasts have posted a 1.3 or higher household rating (compared to two games of 1.3 or greater in the first half of the 2007-08 season)

The key advertiser demos of Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 also registered increased ratings. Adults 18-49 ratings are up 125% and Adults 25-54 have increased 100%.

The Calgary Flames vs. Sharks game on Nov. 13, 2008, delivered a 1.9 rating, making it the highest rated regular season game since Anaheim Ducks vs. Sharks 1.9 on December 20, 2005.

In addition, the San Jose Sharks and Comcast SportsNet Bay Area announced today that the network has added two games to the Sharks 2008-09 broadcast schedule, which ensures that every Sharks game for the remainder of the regular season will be available to Bay Area television viewers.

“Comcast SportsNet continues to step up as a great partner of the San Jose Sharks and their fans,” said Sharks Executive Vice President of Business Operations Malcolm Bordelon. “Our audience continues to grow and it’s very exciting to know that Sharks fans will have access to every remaining Sharks game as the team continues this record-breaking season.”

Comcast SportsNet Bay Area announced that they have added the Sharks March 12 game at St. Louis and their March 25 game at Chicago to the broadcast schedule on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area-Plus. Both broadcasts begin at 5:30 p.m. PST.

In addition, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area will make the Sharks March 28 game at Phoenix available in High-Definition on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. The contest, originally listed as a Comcast SportsNet Bay Area-Plus broadcast, was also moved to the main Comcast SportsNet Bay Area channel.

Furthermore, Sharks games on April 2 at Edmonton and April 9 vs. Phoenix have been moved from Comcast SportsNet Bay Area-Plus to the main Comcast SportsNet Bay Area channel. The April 9 broadcast has also added the half-hour “Postgame Live” program to the listing and both the game and postgame show will now be broadcast in High-Definition.

“We’re thrilled that more fans are watching Sharks hockey than ever before and we want to give them more hockey than ever before,” said Ted Griggs, Vice President and General Manager, Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. “Comcast SportsNet is committed to airing every possible Sharks game and providing fans with comprehensive coverage as the team marches towards and through the Stanley Cup playoffs.”
