Sharks Assist Tyson Foods, Lift Up America

Why did the chicken cross the road? To help feed thousands of needy families all over the Bay Area of course! Tyson Foods, Inc., Lift Up America and the San Jose Sharks teamed up on March 4 to help area hunger relief agencies with a donation of a truckload of frozen chicken.
At this Bay Area event that took place at City Team Family Services, several Sharks players were on hand to help unload the truck, which contained 25,000 pounds of chicken to more than 20 hunger relief agencies. The players: Jody Shelley, Brian Boucher, Tomas Plihal, and Sharks Ambassador Mike Ricci were joined by Greg Jamison, president and CEO of San Jose Sharks and Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment, Sharks Radio play-by-play announcer Dan Rusanowsky and S.J. Sharkie, the team mascot.
"Our partnership and team spirit between these great organizations have a tremendous impact," said Dave Hannah, CEO of Lift Up America. "It is truly inspirational to see so many entities coming together with such a noble goal in mind."
Founded in 2004, Lift Up America is a collaborative effort of companies including Tyson working with professional and college sports teams and local nonprofit agencies to provide the gifts of food, sight, hearing and comfort to our nations less fortunate. Lift Up America, through their sponsors, will provide more than $25 million in hearing aids, help approximately 25,000 people in need of prescription eyeglasses and deliver three million meals to the less fortunate across America in 2006.
"The San Jose Sharks are very proud to be a part of this event where we can show our core value of supporting the community and being a good neighbor," said Jamison, "With all the players, board members, and media that came out to support this event it is a real testament to the power of many hands and hearts working toward a good cause."
This is the third year that the San Jose Sharks organization has participated in the Lift Up America program. Founded in 2005 with a mission to give back to communities across the country, Lift Up America continues to nurture its vision of providing important necessities to families and instilling hope in the hearts of Americas less-fortunate. Lift Up America, fueled by caring corporations and individuals and powered by a humanitarian heart, aims to feed the nations hungry, while providing hope, hearing and vision screenings, and prescription hearing aids and eyewear to American children in need.
"Were honored to join forces with such caring organizations to help the people of the San Jose area," said John Tyson, chairman of Tyson Foods. "We hope our contribution inspires others to participate in the fight against hunger."
