SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed left wing Ryane Clowe to a one-year contract. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Clowe, 25, was limited to 15 games during the regular season due to a knee injury he suffered in Columbus on Oct. 29. He returned to the lineup with only four games remaining and recorded eight points (three goals, five assists).

In the 2008 playoffs, Clowe finished tied for the team’s goal scoring lead (five) and his nine points ranked second on the squad.

Clowe completed his first full NHL season in 2006-07 posting 34 points (16 goals, 18 assists) in 58 games. Among League rookies, he finished tied for ninth in goals, tied for 11th in power play goals (4), tied for seventh in game-winning goals (three) and third in shot percentage (17.2%). He was named the NHL Rookie of the Month for January by posting 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in 11 games, becoming the first Shark to do so since Evgeni Nabokov in December 2000.

The native of St. John’s, Newfoundland made his NHL debut in the 2005-06 season and posted two assists in 18 games. He spent parts of three season with Cleveland of the American Hockey League, then the Sharks top development affiliate, from 2003-06 and accumulated 136 points (51goals, 85 assists) and 233 penalty minutes in 181 games.

Clowe was originally selected by the Sharks in the sixth round (175th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
