New Jerseys To Be Unveiled Sept. 17 At 2 P.M.

By San Jose Sharks Staff
The San Jose Sharks will unveil their new home and road jerseys at HP Pavilion on Monday, Sept.17 at 2 p.m. Several Sharks players, including Team Captain Patrick Marleau, will don the new uniforms in an on-ice presentation that is open to media.

The general public can gain their first glimpse of the new jerseys by visiting the Sharks Store located at HP Pavilion or by visiting sjsharks.com at 2 p.m. on the 17th. The Sharks Store will have the jerseys on sale to the general public from 2 - 4:30 p.m. next Monday. The store will close at 4:30 p.m. and re-open for those attending the Teal and White Game at 5 p.m. Fans wishing to pre-order the new sweater can do so now at the Sharks Store or by visiting sharksstore.com (with the jersey being available for pick up on the 17th at 2 p.m.).

“We really believe that the fans will like the new design,” said Marleau. “From a player standpoint, we had a great deal of input into the creation of these uniforms, along with the business operations people and our equipment staff. This process was a total team effort and it is a credit to the organization.”

The team will be in action for the first time in the new uniforms later that night at 7 p.m. as the Sharks will break into two teams for the annual Teal and White Game. The game is open exclusively to Sharks Season Ticket Holders. The Sharks then begin their exhibition schedule at Los Angeles on Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m.

The introduction of the re-designed Sharks sweater comes in conjunction with the launch of the new Rbk EDGE Uniform System™, adopted League-wide for the 2007–08 NHL season. Following more than two years of research and development, new uniforms are being brought in to enhance player performance and increase player protection and safety.

The NHL and Reebok worked together to develop a new uniform system that uses improved materials that are more breathable, more resistant to water absorption and offer a greater range of motion.

The Rbk EDGE Uniform System will be worn by all 30 NHL teams in their respective colors and designs. The introduction of this system for the 2007-08 season marks the first time in the history of North American professional sports that a uniform innovation has been implemented League-wide.

On July 24, the Sharks unveiled their new updated logo that will serve as the face of the team for years to come. The new San Jose Sharks Primary Crest, joined by eight supporting marks, is both a reimagination and a tribute to the original triangle logo used since the team’s inception in 1991. The updated crest incorporates more Pacific Teal, the primary color of the Sharks, and emphasizes speed, strength and determination. Terry Smith, the designer of the original Sharks logo, created the new marks over an 18-month period in conjunction with Sharks players and front office.
