SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug WIlson announced today that the club has re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Jason Demers (@JasonDemers5) to a two-year contract.
"Jason has been a solid, offensive defenseman and is coming off a good season," said Wilson. "His skill set and his age mesh well within our overall group and we're happy to have him signed for two more years."
In 2013-14, Demers posted 34 points (five goals, 29 assists), a plus-14 rating, and 30 penalty minutes in 75 games. Along with finishing second amongst team defensemen in scoring (34 points), Demers set a career-high in both goals (five), assists (29), and points (34). Demers played in all seven postseason games with San Jose, registering one assist.
The 26-year-old Demers has appeared in 280 career regular season NHL games, all with San Jose, registering 95 points (16 goals, 75 assists), a plus-26 rating, and 111 penalty minutes. During his rookie season in 2009-10, Demers was named the PlayStation® "Sharks Rookie of the Year".
The six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Dorval, QC, was originally selected by San Jose in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (7th round, 186th overall).
