After a disappointing loss to Colorado on Saturday, the Sharks were ready to turn things around in snowy Chicago and face the top team in the NHL. The fast-paced game, great goaltending and strong shootout turned it into a memorable night for the Sharks as they snapped a six-game losing streak in Chicago on national television and left Blackhawk fans at the Madhouse on Madison very unhappy.
Weather seemed to be a topic of conversation surrounding the game.
Seven years chasing a hockey team around North America and first time I won't make it to game. Flight canceled, Chicago canceled. #SJSharks— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) January 5, 2014
And the Sharks weren't the only Bay Area team dealing with the cold.
Always there to help ESPN out.

There were a few Negative Nancy's on Twitter about the matchup.
I don't think I've been this certain the Sharks are going to lose a game since 2003. Prove me wrong, Corey Crawford.— Fear The Fin (@fearthefin) January 6, 2014
But don't fear ... we had a secret weapon.
Meanwhile, lot's of chatter on Team Canada predictions.
@cotsonika Is it possible to love Joe Thornton more than we already do?— Dave Lozo (@DaveLozo) January 5, 2014

With less than 10 minutes remaining ... GOAL!
With his goal today Demers now has 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 games. Meanwhile Nieto now has assists in 3 of 4 games. #SJSharks— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 6, 2014
Only the 17th time the Blackhawks have allowed a game's first goal this season, tied-2nd fewest in NHL (St. Louis Blues, 13).— Darin Stephens (@SharksStats) January 6, 2014
Fact: There was only one penalty called the entire night.
Mike Brown playing his role to perfection so far tonight. Reminiscent of 09 playoffs AGAINST #SJSharks— Daniel Pedroza (@THEdpedroza) January 6, 2014
Since the game was nationally televised, Sharks broadcasters Drew Remenda and Randy Hahn didn't call the game.
Selfies from Chicago with the great Drew Remenda. It's come to this. pic.twitter.com/MqHvZ2ojSi— Randy Hahn (@sharkvoice) January 6, 2014
That was a smart period, an efficient period, a tactically well executed period, a disciplined period & an opportunistic period. #SJSharks— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 6, 2014
So far the game was evenly matched with a strong showing from the Sharks.
Demers defended Kane perfectly inside the #SJSharks that created a turnover that led to Marleau setting up Couture for a good chance— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 6, 2014
No pressure or anything, but #SSharks McLellan just drew comparisons between Datsyuk and Couture for national TV audience.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) January 6, 2014
Another smart, disciplined period for the #SJSharks who lead 1-0 after 2. 20 miles …. 20 smiles— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 6, 2014
Sharks also now lead 26-21 in faceoffs. San Jose won 20 of 28 draws in the 2nd period.— Darin Stephens (@SharksStats) January 6, 2014
It wasn't the ideal start to the third period for the Sharks.

Thornton's backhand saucer pass that was about 10 feet to Burns is one of the toughest passes to make - amazing touch as Burns ties it at 2— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) January 6, 2014
Joe Thornton with the assist. He leads the NHL with 43, and now has an 8-game assists streak (11 during that span).— Darin Stephens (@SharksStats) January 6, 2014
