The second of back-to-back games over the weekend had the Sharks skating for points less than 24 hours after playing in another city. All that equated to some tired legs and a tough matchup at the end of an East Coast road trip.
Earlier start than usual for most Sharks fans.
Didn't consult @SanJoseSharks schedule before committing to plans... Rookie mistake...— Ken (@KENgineer84) October 27, 2013
A balanced attack and a good start for the Sharks hopefully has the play of some of the less heralded being noticed.
A lot was made of Couture and Nieto last night, but I think the Sheppard-Desjardins-McCarthy line played extremely well. #sjsharks— Kevin Lacy (@KevinLacy22) October 27, 2013

San Jose's first Sunday game of the year pits them against the NFL for the first time. So here's a loose tie-in.

#SharksTerritory is everywhere.
Lineup and roster details.
Boyle still out tonight, TM says hopefully he returns Wednesday. Stalock starting, and Mike Brown will be back in for someone— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) October 27, 2013
In their last 6 games Ottawa has scored 1 goal in 3 (all losses) & 4 or more in the other 3 (all wins). Sharks team defense is key today— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
#SJSharks STARTERS: Marleau-Couture-Kennedy, Vlasic-Braun, Stalock SCRATCHES: Havlat, Nieto, Burns— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) October 27, 2013
Loving these quick starts.
Hertl in the right spot, graciously accepts a fortuitous bound 2 score his 8th of the year & 2nd against the Senators as the Sharks lead 1-0— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
The ever-important line combination reporting.
Must've been between lines earlier, as it's now Hamilton-Pavelski-Wingels for #SJSharks. Move McCarthy to 4th line.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) October 27, 2013
Desi gets his first on a highlight backhand.
Backhand snipe and a ding off the bar. Oh baby. 2-0 #SJSharks— Keanu Haghighi (@keanuhaghighi) October 27, 2013
Anderson looks shaky. Allows rebound of Stuart shot to Desjardins, who backhands in his first goal. 2-0 #SJSharks— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) October 27, 2013
People are still amazed by Mike Brown's mustache.

News would eventually surface that Nieto was held out of the lineup after lingering effects from a blocked shot in the Montreal game, the night before, a game that looked like it had an impact on the whole team and not just Matt.
Told Nieto was an "unhealthy" scratch and will know more after game.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) October 27, 2013
Sharks look like they are still trying 2 get their legs 4 this back to back game with an early start. Ottawa has 12 Shots in first 13 min's— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
First penalty of the game goes against the Sharks, but works to their advantage.
Wingels just showed hockey players why U never quit on a play -he got up the ice ahead of the Ottawa players & tapped in the Couture rebound— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
1st period ends with #SJSharks ahead3-1 and I'm still trying to figure out what happened to Nieto and why Anderson froze on Wingels goal.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) October 27, 2013
Watching Logan Couture again. He's so good in the 3 zones. Got to be on Team Canada list for the Olympics. #sharks— Renaud Lavoie (@LavoieRenaud) October 27, 2013
Can't wait to see how great the team looks when 100% :) #sjsharks— Chris Nelson (@PoppySmurf87) October 27, 2013
@SanJoseSharks By the way, Stalock for a genuine new young goalie, is doing great! Very promising! :)— DevilinDisguise (@7PinkPanther7) October 27, 2013
Might be his first game but Stalock is earning his paycheck tonight. Looks calm and confident so far. Early goals probably helped #SJSharks— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzCSN) October 27, 2013
That was an awesome pass by Stalock down the ice, resulted in a SOG but the #SJSharks come up empty on the powerplay. Dang.— Matt Fraser (@TheFraze408) October 27, 2013
#SJSharks haven't been out-shot all season, but they trail OTT, 27-21, at this point in game.— David Pollak (@PollakOnSharks) October 27, 2013
The Senators got a goal in the second to bring it within one, but another Sharks first allowed the team to pull away.
And this was just an amazing goal.
The #AllAmericanGoal goes from Wingels to Pavs to Braun to Pavs.— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) October 27, 2013
The Sharks 5th goal was brilliant from winning races, establishing body position, winning battles & willing their way. What a play by Braun— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
What a goal by Pavelski. Amazing transition rush, hustle, etc. Another reason why the Sharks are excellent so far, quick strike team.— Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) October 27, 2013
Sharks - scary good team , different class than Sens tonight even without Burns , Boyle and Havlat.— Jason York (@jasonyork33) October 27, 2013
This is by far the most shots against in a game. Previous high was 31 against Dallas. Ottawa has 39 and counting - great game by Stalock— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
The race for the exits is the biggest competition right now. #Sens— Bruce Garrioch (@SunGarrioch) October 27, 2013
Not any amount of glowing optimism, but good perspective.
Sharks looked like a team missing four top-nine forwards, a #1 defenseman and playing their second game in 24 hours. But, hey, they won.— Fear The Fin (@fearthefin) October 27, 2013
There are good wins, satisfying wins and tonight was a very good satisfying win. Players dug their heels in and found a way. WTG Alex!— Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13) October 27, 2013
Congrats to Alex on picking up his fist win as a starter in a hard fought performance. He admittingly said this was much tougher than getting the win coming off the bench three years ago in Phoenix.
Stalock: "You think about it all day. It was nice to have a 5 o'clock game. Quick turnaround. Just go out & play." pic.twitter.com/ifdbPqj5zZ— San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) October 27, 2013
